Business Owners, You Can Avoid Being a Part of An Ugly Statistic
11/2/2022 (Permalink)
50% of business may never reopen after suffering a disaster, such as a water or fire damage. You can avoid being a part of that statistic!
If you are a business owner, the absolute, most important step you can take to ensuring your business is prepared for the unfortunate (and most often, unpredictable) event of fire, water, mold, and biohazard events from occurring is scheduling a time for your local SERVPRO of Clayton County pros in green to come out and offer our free, at-no-cost assessment of your facility.
During this visit, we are not there to show you every flaw of your building. Your time is valuable, and let's be honest, who wants to hear about everything structurally vulnerable to your building. Instead, we simply gather all of the pertinent information regarding your building, such as the locations of all of your main water shut-off valves, for instance. We also take the time to take photos of these valves with descriptions of where they are located in your building, as well as establish a proper chain-of-command of who your SERVPRO professionals should be communicating with when having work authorizations signed, and more.
Your property manager and team will receive a physical copy of this Emergency Ready Profile (ERP) as well as a free app for those approved in your building to access at any given time to ensure the proper response to any unfortunate event that has taken place at your building. A whopping 50% of business may never reopen after suffering a disaster, such as a water or fire damage. Alternatively, the businesses who took us up on establishing an ERP for their building are able to reopen quickly because of this preparation. We do the work for you in creating your ERP as a token of our appreciation for being your dependable, local team of disaster restoration professionals.
Give SERVPRO of Clayton County a call today to schedule your ERP! You will never regret it!

Why is Cleaning Your Air Ducts Important?
10/5/2022 (Permalink)
The average air duct system should be cleaned every 3 to 5 years.
There is nothing like the sense of accomplishment that comes with taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of your household, or clients in and out of your place of business. A great way to consider starting the journey in ensuring your home or place of business has a clean environment, consider having your air ducts cleaned on a regular basis. The average air duct system should be cleaned every 3 to 5 years, but if you are unsure, it is good practice to at least begin by having a visual inspection of your air ducts performed to ensure there are no large deposits of dust or mold. It is also important to make sure there are no must odors or visible mold growth.
A general overview of when you should consider having your air ducts cleaned is when there is visible mold growth inside hard surfaces, when there is evidence of vermin infestation (rodents, bugs, etc.), and the more obvious: when your ducts are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris. It is also important to note that many sections of your HVAC may not be accessible for a DIY, visual inspection, so it is a good practice to schedule a service provider to show you any mold they feel exists in and around your heating and cooling system. If you want to take it a step further, grab a piece of household tape, lay it across an accessible surface in which your service provider says contains mold, and send off the sample to a microbiology laboratory so they can determine if it is indeed mold, or simply a substance that resembles mold.

7/1/2022 (Permalink)

This problem can cause major damage to drywall, insulation, wood, etc. It is important to inspect your property for any sign of water damage that can rapidly turn into a mold issue. When our technicians find signs of microbial growth, their initial focus is to stop the water source from affecting additional areas. The source could be from a leaking water heater, a busted pipe, a leaky roof, condensation, etc.

Make Sure You Are Keeping Your Commercial Air Ducts Clean!
6/28/2022 (Permalink)
If you are interested in getting your air ducts cleaned, give SERVPRO of Henry, Spalding, Butts, and Clayton Counties a call at 678-432-3003.
Many people or businesses tend to overlook certain aspects of their commercial buildings when they are going through their maintenance checklist. One thing that is often forgotten about is air duct cleaning, because cleaning an air duct system that is not showing any obvious problems can seem like an unnecessary expenditure of time and money. According to the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) the rule of thumb for consumers is that “if your air ducts look dirty, they probably are.” While you do not need to clean you air ducts every year, it is not something that you do not want to forget to maintain. Below are some benefits to cleaning your air ducts:
- Improved indoor air quality
- Greater HVAC system efficiency
- Longer HVAC component lifespan
- Air duct cleaning conserves energy
- Air duct cleaning will save you money in the long run
Accidents Happen!
2/1/2022 (Permalink)
Recently, a moving truck at an apartment complex in Atlanta disregarded the height signals and caused a major flood in the parking deck.
A commercial sprinkler system uses approximately 15 gallons of water per minute. If just 2 zones are affected for 10 minutes, more than 300 gallons of water have caused tremendous damage to your property. As with the example mentioned above, sprinkler systems go off for many reasons besides fire.
What should Property Managers and Engineers do if that happens in their building? The most important thing to do is to turn the water off. It is important to know the location of the water shut-off, that is why we recommend having an ERP for the building, where it shows the location of the water shut-off, electrical panels, alarm systems, etc. If there is extensive water damage, call an expert in dealing with water mitigation for commercial buildings. This will save the building owners and managers time, money, and headaches.
If you are dealing with a fire or water emergency, call SERVPRO of Henry & Spalding Counties and SERVPRO of Clayton County at 678-432-3003. We have more than 20 years of experience in the restoration business to deal with any size disaster 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Ask the HVAC inspector to check for rusted drain pans, broken condensate pumps cracked heat exchangers (ask the HVAC company in advance to see if this test is included). Commercial Fire Safety
11/11/2019 (Permalink)
Call SERVPRO of Henry & Spalding Counties at 678-432-3003
Experiencing a fire could be devastating for any business owner.
Even if the fire department was able contain the flames relatively quickly, and the damage is not spread to the rest of the building, water damage caused by firefighting efforts could be extensive. Each minute you spend restoring your business to its pre-fire condition, is a minute of lost revenue and productivity.
Fire injuries account for 3% of workplace injuries in the U.S. each year. It is a good idea to have certain policies and best practices in place so that you and your employees know how to react in case of a fire. Remember that preparation is the key to minimizing injuries in the workplace.
Check with your local fire department and inquire about the fire code for Henry and Spalding Counties. Install a sprinkler system in your building. Have multi-purpose fire extinguishers throughout your property and have a training session so that your employees know how to handle different types of fires.
Have an evacuation plan, and make sure your employees know about it. You should post it in break rooms, exit doors, elevators, etc. Practice fire drills as often as necessary (these drills can be announced or unannounced).
If you have a fire emergency, call SERVPRO of Henry & Spalding Counties at 678-432-3003.

Don’t let a water loss turn into a contaminated loss
8/3/2018 (Permalink)
Call Us Today – We’re Ready To Help 678-432-3003
During the summer, if your business experiences a water loss where the power is shut off, the high temperatures and high humidity can cause microbes to grow much faster than one would think possible. We don’t like to think about it, but microbes are everywhere, and they can grow everywhere in your facility (wood, paper, drywall, insulation, carpet, etc.) These microbes become airborne and spread to other clean areas and create cross-contamination.
They key is to act fast to prevent a water loss job to grow into a contaminated loss. If it is possible, and safe to do so, start extracting the water and get power restored as soon as possible. Decrease the temperature and moisture in the building. If possible try to keep humidity below 60 percent.
You need a company that is qualified to avoid microbe growth. Here at SERVPRO of Henry & Spalding Counties, we are focused on reducing business interruption, reducing claims cost and minimizing callbacks. Our crews are highly trained restoration professionals that use specialized equipment and techniques to properly remediate the problem quickly and safely.

By following these tips you can greatly reduce the chances of an office fire, but in the event of a fire you should have an evacuation plan posted all around the building. Once everyone is safely removed from the building and the fire has been put out then you can call SERVPRO of Henry & Spalding Counties to help mitigate the damages and make your building feel “Like it never even happened.”
Tips for Preparing Your Business for Winter Weather

Icy Conditions
Much of Georgia is under a winter weather advisory with freezing rain and ice accumulation expected.
Here are a few tips your business should consider right now to prepare for inclement weather
- Check your business property for downed tree limbs and branches. Weather, such as wind, heavy rain and ice can cause branches to fall, which could cause damage to the property and potentially cause personal injuries.
- Inspect property, especially walkways and parking lots, for proper drainage to alleviate flood hazard potential.
- Inspect all handrails, stairwells and entryways to address and correct potential slippery or hazardous areas. Install mats or non-slip surfaces and post caution signs where water could be present.
- Ask SERVPRO of Henry & Spalding Counties Professionals about starting a Disaster Recovery Plan for your business.
