Water Damage in Basements
2/1/2022 (Permalink)
Water Damage in basements is a common occurrence in Georgia. Issues with the draining system, foundation cracks, and heavy rains are some of the most common reasons this area of the house is prone to flooding.
If you see damp areas in your basement, try to determine the source. Make sure the drain is not clogged. Seal any cracks you see on the walls and floors with a water sealant found in all hardware stores. Try to ventilate the area by opening windows and doors and turning fans on to speed up the drying process.
If it is safe to do so, go outside and inspect the area around the basement to make sure that water is flowing away from the structure and not into the basement. A new draining system or sump pump may have to be installed. Another important step is to make sure the gutters are clean, and they should be pointing away from the foundation of the home.
If the water damage in the basement is extensive, call a professional company to help with the water remediation process. This should be done quickly in order to prevent mold from forming.
